The Day Reeves Was Killed

Shortly after the series ended in 1958, shortly after the death of John Hamilton (editor Perry White, also known by the nickname he despised, Chief), Reeves found himself very unhappy about being typecast as just a ‘Superman’. He couldn’t find work and had trouble dealing with it. He had done some directing nearing the end of the Superman series, and had actually written a script for a pilot show. He was hoping that his luck would change.

Then, in early June 59’, he got the news that the show was going to make a comeback and filming would begin in a couple months, with a new editor to replace John Hamilton. He was also going to get to direct more of the shows. Also, his agent had wrapped up a deal for Noel Neill (Lois Lane), Carlson (Olson) and Reeves to do a tour in Australia and New Zealand, to promote Superman, and he would get $20K. So things were beginning to look up for the Man of Steel.

Again, Reeves had been seeing Lenore Lemmon for some time now and they were good friends. She actually told friends that the pair were going to be married soon. When asked if he was getting married, Reeves often remarked, ‘I wish someone let me in on this wedding thing!’ He thought he made it clear to Lemmon, that his real love was Toni and they were just good friends. Not a good thing to tell a woman like Lenore Lemmon, whose ex-husband was a mob boss. This kind of woman is used to being the one and only, and this kind of talk could have brought on Reeves’ undoing.

Late in the evening of June 15, 1959, George was awakened by his girl friend, Lenore Lemmon and a couple, who were her friends. The couples started to drink, talk and dance. After an hour or so, Reeves and the man got into and argument. With all being very drunk, Reeves went to his bedroom, having to get up early the next day to go a couple rounds of boxing with Archie Moore. According to the other three people, at 1am, they heard shots from the room and Reeves was later found on his bed, dead.

The inconsistencies now begin, the three telling the police (who were called nearly a half hour after Reeves was shot) that he was very upset about not working and talked about killing himself. George had not told his ‘friend’ about the good news he had gotten earlier yet. Reeves body was taken to the morgue and embalmed, on Lemmon’s request, the next day. Doing an autopsy on an embalmed person is next to impossible. Reeves’ gun, in the house for protection, for some unknown reason, had no prints on it. If he had killed himself, there were no powder burns on his head. And two days after his death the police chief had closed the ‘investigation’ down, writing it off as a ‘suicide’ much to the chagrin of friends and relatives. A few more days later, other policemen, happened to find two other bullet holes in the floor of George’s bedroom, coming from the room where the other three were partying, when the carpeting (with all the blood) was removed from the house. With the knowledge of this, George’s mother had his body ‘put on ice’ out of state, while trying for 6 months trying to get the case re-opened, but police chief (under orders from the mob?) wouldn’t budge.

Days earlier, previous to all this, Lenore Lemmon not only broke the coroner / police seal on the house, but took $4000 in cashier checks of Reeves with her to New York, and skipped his ‘memorial’. She gave her attorney, Edward Bennett Williams, the checks, she took unlawfully, and he paid someone to get them back, but only after they had already been noticed missing. Bailey told her, as a good attorney does, to ‘not talk about his death and the circumstances to anyone, for any reason’. Sounds like George may have not been in such good company that night.

What really happened that evening we will never know for sure, but I would think that Pluto of death and violence, and Mars of guns, blood, head wounds and physical energy being expended would have to be prominent in these charts. In astrology, when we find three or more aspects that have close relationship in meaning, there is a condition called ‘fateful’. It is one that one rarely ‘escapes’ because it is Karmic in nature. In Reeve’s case, he walked into a situation in his own bedroom that not even Superman could have saved him from.

We must think of the Moon as a second hand or ‘trigger’ in most cases (sometime a progressed Moon in it’s chart is more accurate than the Transiting Moon) of an event. Here the Moon, at 1a the evening of his death, would have to be very close to the point shown here, 4 Scorpio. Firstly, the Moon was in Libra and had just entered the 8th house of beginnings and endings (death) in it's own chart and in the bi-wheel, is forming an opposition to Reeves' own Moon in Aries and a trine to his Sun. Normally a trine is symbolic of 'easy opportunity' but in this case, it is symbolizing 'quickness' in a situation or how the ball will start rolling, dependant on the conditions. In other words, if things are going good, they will begin to steamroll and start to go great!. If things aren't going well, they will snowball that direction, and things will continue to get worse. We see how one (bad) thing just led to another and another the evening of his death; a vicious spiral. Tragically, even after his death, things get worse and worse for Reeves' friends and family and even his honor. In the opposition, we see how the emotional climate is opposite of what makes Reeves feel good, confident and happy. The last hours of his life must have been a real hell, from what I see here in his chart and according to the accounts of those who investigated his 'murder'.

The T Sun, at 24 Gemini, was now approaching his N Pluto at 29 Gemini at the intersection of the 7th cusp. The cusp of the 7th house is symbolic of any 1-1 relationships or associations. When any planet is in its last degree of a sign, like Pluto, it is called ‘the anorectic degree’ and refers to the increased likelihood of the negative energies of this planet coming to the surface, when aspected by an energy planet (Sun, Mars, Pluto, Uranus or Saturn). Reeves was moving into a period of increased likelihood of danger. Though this aspect is a few days of exact, George had a viable 'Sun quindecile Pluto' aspect in his natal. Having a natal that 'resembles' or makes an aspect in a transit, can evoke the aspect earlier (or with a wider orb) than normal. This aspect would add to the intrigue and fill in the point that would give stronger indications to ‘violence, power struggles and death’. It is ironic too, that throughout the last number of years of filming Superman, Reeves had entertained 'dangerous situations' in nearly everyday of filming, and never 'had a scratch on him'! It could be that the Sun's position to the his Ascendant (opposition) gave him a 'false sense of security', if he ever did sense that the situation was bad or had gotten out of hand.

Let’s move on to aspects from Mars and the outer planets. The other planets in our solar system are considered the ‘outer planets’ because of the lack of speed that they move around Earth (remembering that in Geocentric Astrology, the Sun and planets revolve around the Earth). The inner planets (Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars) move quickly, that the aspects they form are ‘fleeting’ almost from the minute they are in an applying orb (as they begin their aspect to the other planet or point). While the outer planets provide a larger window for opportunity (or inopportunity), it would seem to make it harder to accurately ‘predict’ when they might take place. But when outer planets aspecting points in a natal are working in unison, or come together at the same time, it can nearly accurately provide a larger picture of what is really ‘happening’. Let’s move on and examine the outer planets and the aspects they made to Reeves’ natal.

Mars, at 9 Leo, was a couple days past its opposition of his Uranus, 6 Aquarius. This aspect would still increase the chances of a physical accident that could harm a person (or worse). If Reeve's natal relocated birth chart is correct, the Vertex will feel T Mars energies just as Uranus had days earlier. Since the Vertex is Mars is a Karmic personal point in a chart, in all likelihood, George could receive (negative) 'energy'. This happened. Mars was still within orb of being positioned to Uranus to create enough energy to have it happen this now since it was at a Karmic point. To tighten the noose, the Moon was beginning to form its square to Mars and Uranus now too. The astrological timing was very accurate for this crime. Let's not loose sight that Venus and Mars in the sky were together making this aspect to the Vertex. The energy could be dealt by or directed by a woman (Vertex is Saturn~like, as we will see in the next paragraph.)

T Saturn, at 4 Capricorn was sitting on his Astrea, the asteroid of ‘vision’. This vision can be your sight (or not being able to see) or ‘future vision’, as in where your life is going. It has already been established he was not having problems with where his ‘Superman’ future was going, but in the 1st house, it all becomes more personal than future jobs or tours. Here it was dealing with his immediate future, like right now! Notice too, the T Astrea, at that 29th degree of Sagittarius, is exactly opposite Reeves’ Pluto, inferring that his ‘future’ was in jeopardy because of dramatic changes that were not likely to be favorable (death, destruction). While the trine of T Pluto to his Mercury had just brought 'dramatic changes in his fortunes (Superman revival)', Merc's tie to Saturn here, will bring along some flavor (or energies) of Pluto's to the table. While Saturn may have helped him make the decision to do the Superman thing, Saturn also plays the heavy, sometime when we least expect it. Saturn was forming a bond with his Venus. It could have very well have been that the nonsense that went on that night with the others, gave George 'second-thoughts' about Lemmon. He may have said something to her or given her the idea that her 'days were numbered'. We will never know on this earthly plane, that is for sure. While we do know that with Saturn in one's first house, we see the increased chances for 'organization, structure, and responsibility', we have to accept that it also brings with it, increased odds of 'restrictions, delays, unhappiness'. In any books that you read about Karma or the Vertex, you will find close ties to Saturn.

T Uranus, at 13 Leo, was beginning to form a square to his Hygiea of health and fitness. Had this been Saturn, I would be more apt to believe that he was having serious depression-like problems, but Uranus brings the suddenness and abruptness to a health or fitness problem for George here. George was drunk. Could he have passed out, and been murdered in cold blood, and made to look like he killed himself. Sure. Looking closely, Uranus was forming an inconjunct now to his Sun. This would accent unusual or unique adjustments in his life that while being drunk (incapacitated) would be impossible!

T Pluto at 2 Virgo is forming a square to his Mercury, at 2 Capricorn. Not only does a square practically guarantee ‘action or energy’ but also difficult situations involving the two planets involved. Here is an argument that could get out of hand and deadly. An argument that won't (can't) end or cool. Remember, Reeves had told Lemmon that he had no interest in marriage, and expected her to understand. She didn’t and mixed with her drunken state, and a reason for revenge (Pluto), it seems clear that this conversation (Mercury) and her memory of it (Mercury) may have brought back memories that night with a reason to kill (Pluto) and what better time when the Man of Steel was either passed out or drunk. Could be too that the man friend had asked George about the upcoming ‘wedding’ and triggered the ‘argument’ (Mercury) that sent George to his room. With everything I have heard recently on the event leading to his death, this seems to make the most sense to me, both literally and figuratively…and astrologically. Just for the record, Mercury is the ruler of the mind and Pluto’s square to it, could bring ‘destruction’ or dramatic changes to that mind.

If the time of death were close to 1a, the Ascendant, 27 Sagittarius, would be very close to his Midheaven, 36 Sag. Here is his environment, his personal 'rising' point, in the 'heavens', or the highest point in his (natal) sky, which is very prophetic, with his soul rising form his body to await its next incarnation. Just as prophetic is how it is aligned opposed to his natal Sun, the giver of life, as it was being extinguished.

Though George Reeves’ death certificate reads he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and with no real investigation to anything disputing this, it is unlikely that anything will changes. But the strong likelihood that ‘the Man of Steel’ was murdered is significantly increased now that some astrology on the event has been done.
